Search Engines, Subject Directories, and the Invisible Web

  • What is the Invisible Web?

    • It is what you cannot retrieve ("see") in the search results and other links contained in search engine or subject directory searches.

  • How can I find information on the Invisible Web?

    • Use an online database.

    • Use search engines or subject directories to find searchable databases by adding the word "database" to your subject search. If the database uses the word database in its own pages, you are likely to find it in a search.

    • Examples: "plane crash database," "toxic chemicals database," etc.

  • Which one should I use?
